⚠ Technical safety notice: Admiral appliances in Canadian homes are usually older machines, and age is a hazard in itself: brittle wiring insulation, corroded terminals and worn door seals. A washer or dishwasher pairs a 120V supply with water inside the cabinet, while a range or dryer draws 240V. Isolate the appliance at the breaker and verify the circuit is dead before opening it or placing meter leads. Sealed refrigerant systems in Ontario require an Ozone Depletion Prevention certificate and are not owner-serviceable.

What Is Actually Under the Admiral Badge

Admiral has not built its own appliances for a long time. Rockwell International bought Admiral in 1973 and sold the appliance operations to Magic Chef, Magic Chef went to Maytag, and Whirlpool completed its purchase of Maytag on 31 March 2006. That lineage is the single most useful fact for a repair, because it tells our technician which platform is really in front of them and which parts catalogue to search.

Appliance Real model families Platform underneath What that means on site
Washer, belt drive LATA400AAE, AAV7000AWW, AAV8000AWW Maytag, mechanical timer Belt WP21352320 and a transmission pulley. No fault codes exist on these at all

One chassis often wears several badges. The shift actuator WPW10006355, lid lock W10404050 and suspension rod kit W10780048 listed for the Admiral ATW4675YQ1 are the same numbers listed for the Amana NTW4600YQ1. ATW is Admiral, NTW is Amana, RTW is Roper, MVWC is Maytag, WTW is Whirlpool. Same machine, different front panel, which is why our Whirlpool, Maytag, Amana and Magic Chef work is the same work.

Before you call, find the model plate. On a washer or dryer it is under the lid or inside the door opening; on a fridge it is on the left wall inside, near the crisper; on a range it is behind the storage drawer or on the frame under the door. Read us the whole string. ATW4475VQ0 and ATW4675YQ1 differ by one character and are mechanically unrelated machines.

Admiral Fridge Repair

Admiral Fridge Repair

Admiral refrigerators are Amana and Maytag builds: top-mount cabinets in the ATB and ATF families such as ATB1910DRW, ATB2110DRW and ATF2110DRW, and side-by-sides such as ASD2123DRW and LSD2615HEW. The fault that brings us out most often is the defrost circuit, not the compressor. Frost blocks the evaporator, air stops moving, and the freezer stays cold while the fresh food side warms up.

Worth knowing on these cabinets: most ATB, ATF and ASD units run an electromechanical defrost timer, part WP68233-3, rather than the adaptive defrost board fitted to later Whirlpool designs. The other defrost parts are the clip-on thermostat WP61002992 and, on the ASD side-by-sides, the heater and thermostat assembly WP61006116. The evaporator fan motor is WP61004888. All four are current stock items in Canada.

We also replace door gaskets, WP61004010 for the fresh food door and WP61004007 for the freezer door, and clear drain tubes iced solid at the bottom of the freezer compartment. A sealed-circuit fault is a different conversation, and in Ontario that work requires an Ozone Depletion Prevention certificate. More on fridge repair and on a fridge that will not defrost.

Admiral Dryer Repair

There are two entirely different Admiral electric dryers, and they share no heating or drive parts. The AED models, AED4475TQ0 and AED4675YQ1 among them, are the Whirlpool 29 inch cabinet. The ADE models such as ADE7005AYW are Maytag-built. Getting this wrong means the wrong part in the van.

On the Whirlpool cabinet a no-heat call ends at the element 279838, the cycling thermostat WP3387134, the high-limit WP3977767 or the thermal fuse WP3392519, which opens at about 91°C. A blown fuse is a symptom rather than a cause, so we check the vent run in the same visit. Replacing the fuse alone means you call us again in a month.

Rumbling and squealing on that cabinet come from the roller kit 349241T, the idler WP691366 and the belt 341241, which is why they are usually done together as kit 4392065. The Maytag ADE platform uses its own set entirely. See also electric dryer repair.

Admiral dishwashers, the DDB1501, DWB1000 and DWUA families, are Maytag-built mechanical-timer machines. There is no display and no code to read, so the diagnosis is what the machine does at each point in the cycle. Anyone offering you an Admiral dishwasher error code list has made it up.

Dishes coming out gritty is normally the wash impeller, WP99002069 on a DWB1000AWE, or the chopper, or a blocked spray arm, rather than a failing pump. Water standing in the tub points at the drain pump, WP6-917641 on a DDB1501AWW, or the hose loop under the sink. Leaks are usually the door gasket WP902894.

One honest caveat on this range: several DDB1501 wash-system parts, the chopper 99002658 among them, are now listed as no longer available. We check availability against your model before we book, not after. See dishwasher repair.

Admiral Freezer Repair

Admiral chest freezers, the RFCA and RFC families including RFCA220AAW, RFCA150AAW and RFC1500AAW, and the RFUA and ICNF uprights share the Amana refrigeration platform. Frost building faster than it should is usually a lid or door gasket that has taken a set and no longer seals. Gaskets are still supplied, WP4-81049-001 for the upright cabinets and a kit for the RFCA chest lids.

A freezer that runs without holding temperature is more often the thermostat or the defrost circuit than a dying compressor. The cold control on an RFCA220AAW is WP4-35940-001. Before we come out it is worth confirming the setting against the correct freezer temperature, since a knocked dial accounts for a fair number of these calls.

If the diagnosis does come back as a sealed-circuit leak we say so plainly, because on a cabinet this age that repair rarely makes sense against a new unit. More on freezer repair.

Admiral Washer Repair

Admiral Washer Repair

Which repair your Admiral washer needs depends entirely on which of three platforms it sits on, and the model number settles it in one look.

Direct drive, ATW4475 and ATW4470. A motor that runs while the tub stays still is the coupling 285753A almost every time. A machine that fills and drains but will not spin points at the clutch 285785 or the lid switch WP8318084. There is no belt on these machines to fail.

VMW, ATW4675 and ATW4676. Here there is a belt, WPW10006384, plus the shift actuator WPW10006355 and the lid lock W10404050, which stops the machine spinning when it fails. Belt drive, LATA and AAV. Belt WP21352320 and transmission pulley kit 12002213, diagnosed mechanically from start to finish.

A walking or thumping machine is the suspension: rod kit W10780048 on the VMW cabinets, spring kit 12002773 on the AAV. See washer repair and our washing machine tub guide.

Admiral Cooktop Repair

Admiral cooking appliances are Magic Chef builds, and the coil-top and radiant-top models take different parts. Coil models such as CREA450ACW, CREA600ACL and LER1115AAW use the 8 inch drip bowl WPW10196405 and the 6 inch WPW10196406. Radiant models such as A3878XRA use elements with limiters, W10823707 and W10823704, and have no drip bowls at all.

A single element that has stopped heating is usually the element or the receptacle it plugs into, and burnt receptacle contacts are common where a pot has boiled over. The receptacle kit is 12001676 and the terminal block is WPW10245259. An element stuck on full heat is the infinite switch, WP7403P239-60 for the 8 inch and WP7403P238-60 for the 6 inch, not the element. See stove and cooktop repair.

Admiral Stove Repair

Admiral Stove Repair

On an Admiral electric range the cooktop and the oven fail for different reasons, so it helps us to know which half you are calling about before we load the van.

Surface faults are elements, receptacles and infinite switches, covered above. Oven faults are most often the bake element, WP74003019 on the CREA and A3878XRA cabinets and WP74010750 on the LER cabinets, the broil element WPW10310249, or the oven temperature sensor 12001656. A range that heats but runs cold or hot against the dial is usually that sensor drifting out of range rather than a dead element, and it is a smaller repair than owners expect.

Freestanding and slide-in cabinets are both fine. More on stove repair.

Admiral Oven Repair

Unlike the washers and the dishwashers, Admiral electric ranges and wall ovens do display fault codes, and the F-series list is the one piece of Admiral-specific diagnostic information that exists in print. The table below sets out what each one points at.

An oven that will not hold the temperature you set is a measurement problem before it is a heating problem. We put a meter on the sensor, part 12001656, and compare its resistance against specification, because a sensor reading out of range makes the control hold the wrong temperature while every other part looks intact. That is also what an F3 or F4 code is telling you.

Beyond that we replace bake and broil elements, door gaskets WPW10162384, and hinges where the door sags and vents heat. Note that on the oldest cabinets some door and clock parts are gone: the hinge kit 12400043 and the clock 7601P212-60 for A3878XRA are both listed as no longer available. See oven repair.

Admiral Oven Repair

Admiral Oven and Range Fault Codes

⚠ Technical Safety Notice: Reading a code off the panel is safe. Acting on one is not. An electric range draws 240V, and the terminal block and element receptacles stay live until the circuit is isolated. Switch off at the breaker and confirm the circuit is dead before removing the rear panel or placing meter leads. Element and receptacle contacts that have arced can look intact and still be unsafe.
Code What it points at Checked first
F0 Function key stuck The touch pad itself before the control board behind it
F1 Touch pad or control board fault Which of the two, since on some cabinets they are one assembly
F2 Oven temperature too hot A welded relay on the board, then the sensor
F3 or F4 Oven temperature sensor open or shorted Sensor resistance and the connector at the rear before ordering sensor 12001656
F5 Watchdog and hardware conflict A control board fault. Worth pricing against the cabinet on older ranges
F7 Function key shorted or stuck Moisture and grease behind the membrane, a common cause on kitchen ranges
F8 Analog to digital fault Control board
F9 Door latch The latch motor and switch, usually after a self-clean cycle

This F-series list is published under the Admiral brand by appliance parts retailers, including PartSelect and AppliancePartsPros. Whirlpool publishes no Admiral-branded service documentation, so treat it as trade reference rather than a manufacturer document. It covers ranges, stoves and ovens only.

Why Your Admiral Washer Shows No Code

This is the question we field most, and the answer is that on most Admiral washers there is nothing to show. The belt-drive LATA and AAV machines run an electromechanical timer, part WP21001522 on an AAV7000AWW, with no electronic control to generate a code. The direct-drive ATW4475 machines have a timer knob and selector switches, and their owner manual carries no code list either.

The VMW machines, ATW4675 and ATW4676, do generate faults, but they have status lights rather than a digital display. The code arrives as a pattern of blinking lights, which is why owners tell us the machine "just stops" instead of reading us a code. Whirlpool documents the F#E# set for its top-load platform in the Maytag top-load washer code index, and the same control is under the Admiral badge. What Whirlpool does not publish is any Admiral-branded washer code list. There is no such document, and any table presented as one is somebody's reconstruction.

What this means practically: on an Admiral washer the diagnosis comes from what the machine does and when it started doing it, not from a code you can read to us over the phone. Tell us whether it fills, whether it agitates, whether it drains and whether it spins. Those four answers narrow it further than a code would.

Parts for a Discontinued Badge

This is where owners expect bad news and mostly do not get it. Because the machines are rebadged Whirlpool, Maytag, Amana and Magic Chef units, parts are ordered under Whirlpool numbers rather than Admiral ones. PartSelect Canada runs dedicated Admiral catalogues for refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, ranges and dishwashers priced in Canadian dollars, and Reliable Parts Canada carries Admiral refrigerator and range catalogues.

A technician searching "Admiral" may find nothing. The same technician searching WP61004888 or 285753A finds it in stock. That is the whole trick, and it is why the model number matters more on this brand than on almost any other.

What genuinely does run out is cabinet-specific and control-specific parts on the oldest units, and we would rather tell you now than on the day. Confirmed no longer available at the time of writing: the crisper shelf support 67764-1 and defrost drain pan 61004095 on the ATB and ASD fridges, the temperature control 61002085 on an ATF2110DRW, the chopper 99002658 on a DDB1501AWW dishwasher, and the door hinge kit 12400043 and clock 7601P212-60 on an A3878XRA range. Elements, thermostats, couplings, pumps and gaskets are a different story and remain readily available.

Whether the repair is worth doing is a separate question from whether the part exists, and we give you both answers. Our guides on repairing or replacing a refrigerator, a washing machine, a dryer and an oven set out how we weigh it.

FAQ

Do you still repair Admiral, given the brand is discontinued here?

Yes. The badge is retired in Canada, but the machines underneath are Whirlpool, Maytag, Amana and Magic Chef builds that our technicians work on every week. Parts are ordered under the Whirlpool number rather than an Admiral one, which is why availability is better than owners expect.

What do you need from me before the visit?

The complete model number off the plate, and what the appliance does and when it started. On an Admiral the model matters more than usual: ATW4475VQ0 is a direct-drive washer with a motor coupling, ATW4675YQ1 is a VMW with a belt and a shift actuator, and one character separates them.

My Admiral washer shows no error code. Is something wrong with the display?

There is no display to fail. The belt-drive and direct-drive Admiral washers have a mechanical timer and no electronic diagnostics at all. The VMW machines do detect faults but signal them through blinking status lights rather than characters on a screen. Tell us whether it fills, agitates, drains and spins, and that narrows it further than a code would.

What does an F3 or F4 on my Admiral range mean?

Both point at the oven temperature sensor being open or shorted. We measure the sensor resistance and check the connector at the back of the cabinet before ordering anything, because a corroded connector produces the same code as a failed sensor and costs nothing to fix. The sensor itself is part 12001656 on these ranges.

How is the repair priced?

Labour runs $92 to $278 depending on the job, plus parts. Our technician diagnoses the fault at your address and gives you the price before starting, so you decide then. The service call is free when you go ahead with the repair.

Is an old Admiral worth repairing?

Often yes, and we tell you when it is not. A coupling, a lid lock, a thermostat, a heating element or a defrost part on a sound cabinet is worth doing. A sealed-system leak, or a discontinued control board on a machine of this age, usually is not, and we say so rather than quoting it.

Can you still get parts for a brand this old?

For the wear items, yes. Couplings, clutches, shift actuators, elements, thermostats, defrost parts, pumps and gaskets are current stock in Canada under Whirlpool numbering. What runs out is cabinet trim, some door hardware and certain control boards on the oldest models. We check your model against the catalogue before booking.

Will you work on an appliance somebody else has already opened?

Yes. Tell our technician what was done and which parts were changed. On this brand a previous repair sometimes used a part for the wrong platform, a direct-drive item fitted to a VMW machine for instance, and knowing that up front saves a diagnostic charge.

My Admiral appliance has started making an unusual noise. Should I keep using it?

Stop and unplug it. On a direct-drive washer, grinding is often the coupling breaking up, and running it further sends the debris into the gearcase and turns a small repair into a large one. On a dryer, a rumble is usually the drum rollers, which wear the shafts if left. Both are cheaper diagnosed early.

What does the warranty cover?

Up to three months on the parts we supply and the labour we perform. If the same fault returns inside that window, call us and we come back to it.
