Tap a fault to see what it usually means and what it normally takes to put right. Labour on this page runs $92 to $232, and the service call is free when you go ahead with the repair.
The burners on top still work and the panel lights up, but the cavity stays cold. That points at the bake element: look for a break or a blistered spot in the loop at the bottom of the tub. An element can also fail without any visible mark, reading open on a meter while looking perfectly sound, which is why it is tested rather than judged by eye.
Typical fix: Replace the bake element. Expect $166 to $232 in labour.
Cakes burn on one side, a roast takes half an hour longer than it used to, or an oven thermometer reads 40 degrees off what the panel says. The temperature sensor at the back of the cavity has drifted out of range, so the board is holding the wrong temperature and holding it confidently.
Typical fix: Replace the temperature sensor or RTD probe. Expect $92 to $185 in labour.
No clock, no beep, no light — and often the cooktop still works, which is the clue. A range runs on two 120V legs, so losing one kills the oven and leaves the surface elements alive. The other common cause is the main control board, usually after a surge or a self-clean cycle.
Typical fix: Test the supply and the fuses first, then replace the control board or clock if it has failed. Expect $185 to $232 in labour.
The self-clean cycle finished, the door is still latched, and the oven has gone quiet. Self-clean runs the cavity near 500°C, and the heat regularly takes out the thermal fuse or cooks the door-lock motor. This is the single most common reason an oven dies without warning.
Typical fix: Replace the thermal fuse and, if it was cooked too, the door-lock motor — $92 to $185. If the control board took the heat, $185 to $232.
The door sits crooked, drops open, or you can feel heat escaping along the top edge. Hinges wear and the springs behind them tire, and the heat gasket around the cavity goes hard and flattens. A door that does not seal also explains a lot of “it will not get up to temperature” calls.
Typical fix: Repair or replace the hinges at $185 to $232, or fit a new door seal at $92 to $185.
A rattle, a grinding hum, or a fan that gets louder as the oven heats. It is almost always one of the two motors: the convection fan that circulates air inside the cavity, or the cooling fan that keeps the controls from overheating. Left alone, a failing cooling fan takes the board with it.
Typical fix: Replace the convection fan motor or the cooling fan motor. Expect $166 to $232 in labour.
An oven code narrows the fault to a circuit, not a part. The trap is assuming a code means the same thing on every badge: F9 is a door lock fault on some platforms but LG publishes it as an upper oven that is not heating, and F1 is a shorted key pad on a Frigidaire but a temperature sensor on an LG. The brand and the model number come first, then the code.
| Code | Brand | What the maker says it means | Checked first |
|---|---|---|---|
| F6 E1 | Whirlpool | A problem with the Appliance Manager, or the associated wiring | Whirlpool asks for a one minute breaker reset before anything else |
| F1 | Frigidaire | Shorted key pad | Frigidaire asks for a 30 second power disconnect first |
| E11 | Bosch | Touch keys not operating, often condensation on the keypad | Clean and dry the control panel, then reset power |
| F9 | LG | Upper oven is not heating properly | Element and sensor circuit on the upper cavity |
| F19 | LG | Oven heating error | Heating circuit, checked after a breaker reset |
| F11 | LG | Communication error | The link between the control boards |
| F10 / F20 | LG | Door lock failure, upper or lower oven | Lock motor and its switches |
| F1 / F2 | LG | Upper oven temperature sensor | The sensor and its harness |
| u underlined | Samsung | Pan detection error on an induction surface | Cookware size, material or placement, not a fault |
Every meaning above is the manufacturer’s own published wording, from Whirlpool Product Help, Frigidaire and Bosch owner support, LG’s range code list and Samsung Canada. GE does not publish a public code list for its ovens, so a GE code is read against service documentation on site rather than guessed from a chart.

Two things decide it: which part failed, and how old the range is. The $92 to $185 band — sensors, switches, door seals, surface elements — is almost always worth doing on any oven that is still level and sound. The $166 to $232 band is where it gets real: a control board or a door hinge set on a twelve-year-old range can approach half the price of a new one, and that is the line we tell customers not to cross. We go through the arithmetic in repair or replace your oven.
