What the Code on Your Panel Actually Means

A dishwasher code is a starting point rather than a finished diagnosis. The same characters mean different things across brands, and on some machines the same string means two different things depending on the wash system. These are the ones we are called out for most.

⚠ Technical Safety Notice: Reading a code from the panel is safe. Opening the cabinet to act on one is not. The components behind the door panel carry up to 240V, and a dishwasher that has tripped a leak sensor has water sitting where it should not be. Disconnect power at the breaker before removing any panel, and leave water-in-the-base faults to a qualified appliance technician.
Code Brand What it means Checked first
E24 Bosch Not draining properly The drain filter, which Bosch names ahead of the hose and the pump
E15 Bosch The safety switch has detected water in the base and the leak protection system has activated Turn off the water supply first. The base tray needs draining before the machine will clear
AE (shown as E1 on some panels) LG A leak inside the machine has tripped the float switch The sump gasket and the door seal, then the float assembly itself
E1 Samsung, Bosch, LG A different fault on each brand, which is why a generic search leads people astray Match the code to the brand and model before anything else
7E, 7C Samsung The Waterwall reflector has jammed or come off its track The reflector bar track for debris, then the drive motor
No code Any Many machines signal with a flashing light or a beep pattern instead of a display code Count the flashes before switching it off. A power cycle clears the display while the fault stays

Bosch publishes its own code list, including E24 and E15, in its dishwasher error code documentation.

Tell us the code, the brand and the model number off the plate inside the door frame, and we can narrow it before the visit rather than during it. We also repair refrigerators, washers and ovens, which is worth knowing if the dishwasher shares a circuit with another appliance that has also stopped.

  • Local Technicians: Our technicians work out of the GTA, so appliance repair here means we're just a call away for 'Dishwasher Repair Near Me' searches.
  • Flexible Scheduling: We work around your schedule, offering convenient appointment slots.
  • Customer-Focused Service: Your satisfaction is our top priority. We ensure minimal disruption and leave your space clean after the repair.
⚠ Technical safety notice: A dishwasher runs on a 120V circuit and holds water in the base even when the cycle has ended. Always disconnect power at the breaker before removing any panel, and do not rely on the appliance being switched off. Pulling the machine out means disconnecting the water supply and the drain, so shut the supply valve first. Opening the cabinet may affect your manufacturer warranty. If a step calls for a multimeter or for removing the pump, book a technician instead.

Repair or Replace: How We Work It Out

Two things decide it: which part failed, and how old the machine is. The labour table above splits almost every dishwasher fault into two groups, and the split is the useful part.

The $92 to $185 band covers the parts that wear out on a normal machine: the door latch, the inlet valve, spray arms, the drain hose, the float switch, the heating element, gaskets. These are worth repairing on almost any dishwasher that is otherwise sound. The part is inexpensive, the job is an hour or two, and fixing one does not mean another is due.

The $166 to $232 band is where the decision gets real: the control board, the touch panel, the drain pump, the wash motor, the diverter motor. On a machine three or four years old these are still worth doing. On a machine past ten, a control board is a large share of what a new entry-level dishwasher costs, and the parts around it have the same years on them.

Two rules we apply on site. If the estimate approaches half the price of replacing the machine, we say so rather than quote it and leave you to work it out. And if a second expensive part is visibly close to failing, that goes in the quote as well, because finding out a fortnight later is worse than hearing it now.

The quote comes after diagnosis, at your address, and nothing is charged beyond it without your agreement. That includes telling you when the answer is to buy a new one.

Where We Cover

We take dishwasher calls across Ontario, British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia and New York State. Whether we reach you the same day depends on which technician is already out your way, so the call is worth making even if you are at the edge of a region. The town-by-town list is on our service areas page.

Ottawa, Vancouver and Winnipeg each have a dishwasher page of their own, written around the local water supply. The first two run very soft water, so a white film on glassware there is detergent residue rather than the scale a Toronto customer would be looking at.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How can I troubleshoot typical dishwasher issues?

To troubleshoot common problems, check for blockages in the filter, inspect the spray arms for clogs, ensure the door seal is intact, and confirm the water supply is functioning. For persistent issues, professional help may be needed.

How frequently should I clean and maintain my dishwasher?

Cleaning your dishwasher, including the filter, spray arms, and seals, is recommended every 1–2 months to ensure reliable operation and hygiene.

What are the warning signs that my dishwasher requires professional repair?

Indicators include persistent leaks, strange noises, incomplete cleaning, failure to drain, or error codes on the control panel.

Is it possible to fix a dishwasher leak myself, or should I contact a technician?

Minor leaks caused by clogged drains or door seal issues can often be fixed at home. However, if the leak involves internal components, calling a technician is the safest option.

What steps can I take to extend the life of my dishwasher?

Regular maintenance, avoiding overloading, using quality detergents, and keeping the filter and spray arms clean will help extend your dishwasher’s lifespan.

How can I improve the energy efficiency of my dishwasher?

Use the eco or energy-saving settings, ensure it’s fully loaded before running, and clean the filter regularly to maintain efficiency.

Why does my dishwasher leave residue on dishes?

Residue might be caused by improper detergent usage, a clogged filter, or hard water. Running a cleaning cycle with a dishwasher cleaner can often resolve this.

What should I do if my dishwasher isn’t draining properly?

Check for blockages in the drain hose or filter. If the issue persists, there may be a problem with the drain pump or motor.

Can I use regular dish soap in my dishwasher?

No, using regular dish soap can cause excessive suds and damage the dishwasher. Always use detergents specifically formulated for dishwashers.

Why is my dishwasher making loud or unusual noises?

Unusual noises can indicate loose parts, a malfunctioning pump, or an issue with the motor. Inspecting the spray arms and filter may help, but professional repair may be needed.

How do I know if my dishwasher's heating element is failing?

If dishes come out wet or unclean, or the machine displays temperature-related error codes, the heating element might need to be inspected and replaced.
