Dishwasher E4 Error Code Troubleshooting

Modern dishwashers are equipped with a warning system that digitally displays error codes when a malfunction occurs. One of the most common issues is the E4 error, which typically indicates an excess of water inside the machine.

As soon as an issue prevents normal operation, the dishwasher's sensors activate. In compact models, an acoustic signal will sound for approximately 30 seconds along with the E4 error message appearing on the display.

Troubleshooting Dishwasher E4 Error Code

When your dishwasher starts beeping and displaying the E4 error code, it may be due to several factors. The Aquastop alarm system will be triggered, signaling that the sump is full. Possible causes include:

Overflow Sensor

Your dishwasher contains a float that rises as the water level increases. Once the float reaches a certain height, it signals the float switch to stop the water flow. If the float becomes stuck and fails to rise, the float switch will not activate, causing water overflow.

Drainage System

The drainage system includes the drain hose, which must be properly connected and free from kinks, blockages, or damage. Filters should be clean and unobstructed, and the kitchen sink's waste pipe must drain effectively.

High water pressure or a malfunctioning drain pump can also contribute to the issue. Additionally, a faulty water inlet valve may be the cause. This valve regulates the water supply and shuts off when the correct level is reached. If defective, it can lead to overflow.

Door Gasket

The dishwasher door features a rubber seal known as a gasket, which prevents water leakage. If the gasket becomes worn, obstructed by food debris, or torn, leaks may occur due to inadequate sealing.

Communication Failure

A disruption between the control board and display may result in an E4 error. This issue typically requires assistance from a professional service technician.

How to Reset a Dishwasher with an E4 Error Code

Resetting your dishwasher may resolve the issue. Try the following steps:

  1. Unplug the appliance from the power source and wait a few minutes to allow the electrical charge to dissipate. Then, plug it back in and turn it on.

  2. If the issue persists, press the start/reset button and wait a few minutes before attempting to restart the machine.

  3. If the problem remains unresolved, turn off the power at the circuit breaker, wait briefly, and switch it back on.

  4. To reset the control panel, disconnect the dishwasher from power for about one minute before reconnecting it.

  5. To reset the control board, press the off button, unplug the power cable, and leave it disconnected for approximately 15 minutes before restoring power.
