How to Fix a Frigidaire Refrigerator Error Code H1

How to Fix a Frigidaire Refrigerator Error Code H1

Modern Frigidaire refrigerators are equipped with internal sensors that monitor their performance. When an issue occurs, an error code appears on the display to help diagnose the problem.

One common error code is H1, which indicates that the freezer sensor has shorted. To resolve this issue, you’ll need to check the thermistor and replace it if it’s defective.

Step 1 – Test the Thermistor

Test the Thermistor

The thermistor is responsible for monitoring the refrigerator’s temperature and sending readings to the control board. If it malfunctions, it may provide incorrect temperature data or stop working altogether, triggering the H1 error code.

To clear the H1 error, follow these steps to locate and test the thermistor:

  1. Locate the thermistor in your fridge.
  2. Use a multimeter to check the thermistor’s continuity.
  3. If the thermistor shows no continuity or its resistance doesn’t change with temperature fluctuations, it needs to be replaced.
  4. If the thermistor is functional, reset your fridge by unplugging it for a few minutes and plugging it back in to see if the error code disappears.

Step 2 – Replace the Thermistor

Replace the Thermistor

If testing confirms that the thermistor is faulty, you’ll need to replace it with a new one.

Replacing a Thermistor in the Refrigerator Compartment:

  1. Unplug your fridge.
  2. Remove all food and shelves, including the deli and crisper drawers.
  3. Remove the air duct cover and rear duct screws, then detach the duct.
  4. Disconnect the thermistor from the duct and remove its wire connectors.
  5. Install the new thermistor in the same position and reconnect the wires.
  6. Reassemble the duct, air cover, shelves, and drawers.
  7. Plug your fridge back in and test if the new thermistor works.

Replacing a Thermistor in the Freezer Compartment:

  1. Remove all food from the freezer.
  2. Take out the drawer and rails, unscrewing them if necessary.
  3. Remove the drawer assembly and locate the thermistor.
  4. Unscrew and remove the thermistor housing, then disconnect the wire harness.
  5. Install the new thermistor and reconnect the wire harness.
  6. Secure the thermistor housing, drawer assembly, and rails with screws.
  7. Return the drawer and food to the freezer.
  8. Plug your fridge back in and confirm that the new thermistor is working.

Step 3 – Verify the Fix

Once your fridge is plugged back in, check if the H1 error code has disappeared. If the code persists, try resetting the refrigerator. If the error still appears, a professional technician may need to inspect your appliance.
